A, B, C, D, E

Writer: Gervaise GerstnerGervaise Gerstner

People often ask what advice I have for people that like to sit out in the sun.

My advice is to do your own body exam once a month, yourself. You probably only need to see the doctor about once a year for a skin exam.

What should you looking for? It's the old standby: A, B, C, D, E:

  • "A" for Asymmetry.

  • "B" for a Border Change.

  • "C" for a Color Change - Think outside the box, not just brown or black. It can be pink, any color change.

  • "D" for a Diameter Change - The biggest diameter you want is the end of a pencil eraser.

  • "E" for Evolving - Something that's changing. You nick when you shave, you feel that it's growing -- it's a good idea to bring that type to my attention.
